interview: Mikiko Okumura
（Q: What was your motivation to make this film?）

（A: Am......, to talk about motivation, you have to understand this is a part of trilogy.This is is the second one of the trilogy.）

A: So, the first film in the trilogy is called Store Wars.

Q: About Wal-Mart?

A: Yeah, It's about one small town in United States, it's fighting the biggest retail company in the world. To keep them out, the Wal-Mart store. And, It's one of my film also has a website, it's very detailed, the website is on our PBS, which is the American public television, that is among the major fund of the film. Of course, some (others). And so, when we created the website for the first film, there's one section where Wal-Mart gets all their cheap goods and exemplary factory of China. So that's where I started to think about China, and of course, if you think about globalization, immediately China comes up. So that's where I got interested in China. But then I had to find a story. I needed to find a issue on this. I'm basically a story teller. And at the beginning I could not see how to make interesting film there. Because all I could think of is, the film will be miserable people hunched over sawing machines, or ones watched or like that. So later, I came up with the idea of following a story of one girl who just arrived from a village. She's naïve, she doesn't know what's going to happen with her, and she discovers the reality of the factory together we discovered with her, then I got interested, oh, maybe this could be interesting film, and hopefully something will happen to this girl.... we need to have drama, right? So Actually, this girl has to survive a lot of crises. She does not get paid when everybody else get paid. She get sick she looks her job. Everybody goes home except her. So lot of woes and maybe she could say I can't handle it and go home. But she doesn't she survives all these crises, and at the end, she comes......

Q: She has to survive, that the hard part of her life.

A: But you know, we filmed before Jasmine, I filmed with a different girl.

Q: Oh, so Jasmine is a new model?

A: She was a second one that I filmed with because, (I spent) for a year and a half with a different protagonist.

Q: Oh....A year and half.

A: Yeah, I mean, I came back to China three times over a year and half, and that girl, her name was Shawoo, she broke down. She couldn't handle this life. She went back home.

Q: She was scared?

A: Amm, scared or, just amm...., it's hard life. People just can't handle it. Broke down. She get sick, she quit, she went home.
