Q: So you didn't have any audition?

I did, I did have my size I was there and come into to, to do my scene, and start the scene, and he stops me and he's like "That was great, I don't need to see more." Yeah, he is. And I was like,"Oh my god, I was, I've been so bad that he can't even wait till I finished the scene," and you know we talked for a little bit, and later that week, he just called and said, "I really want you to do Uhura."

Q: You are not yourself a fan of the.. Star Trek? that... you haven't been...

I ....This was not my first... I was aware of Star Trek, because I did a movie with a...Steven Spielburg, a couple of years back, where I played Trekkie. And that was, you know, I did a little research into it and I knew about Star Trek but not never watched it. And I was aware of it, but it wasn't until I did a... the terminal, but I started doing my research and I really fall in love with more with the fans than with the Star Trek, and their commitment and their passion and devotions are something that they know it isn't real but still consciously decided to live and loving it.

... and then years go by, and I met J.J. and I said yes to and you know he said yes and I've already signed onto do it, I really, I did some research here and there but I was afraid to look at and study them by looking at the series, because I was afraid of getting, falling into the trap of mimicking michelle Nichols' Uhura, as opoosed to just Uhura, you know.
