Q: What is your motivation in making films?

A: I've always loved to tell stories, I was a story-teller, even back when I was in kindergarten, you know, SHOGAKUSEI-NO-TOKI, when I was a little boy in elementary school, I always loved to write stories. I've always been a story-teller. As I grew up, you know, I thought that film was a great way to tell the stories. Film's also great, that I love the fact you can watch the film from Japan, from France, from Kenya, from China, from anywhere you can watch the film, and anywhere you can see something about that culture which from. And the same time, you know there are so many things those films are common to everybody, common to human-being. So, I liked how film did that. So, basicly, it was marrying my love of story-telling with my love for cinema, for film. That's why I became film-maker.

Q: What kind of story were you writing in the kindergarten?

A: In the kindergarten, I think I wrote...probably in the kindergarten I was writing some maybe a little bit like Sci-fi stories...

Science fiction, kind of stories, adventure stories... because you know, when you are young, when you are young boy, you know you're thinking about drama. You're thinking about adventure or things like that. So those are the kind of things at the time.
